Intro to Power and Grounding for Operations


Audience Central Office Technicians and Managers, Power Provisioners.

Delivery Mode This course is leader led. If presented at or near a Central Office location the students will receive demonstrations and hands on instruction.

Overview This course provides the student with a working knowledge of the Central Office power plant, VRLA batteries and the equipment protection system. The Job Aids supplied enable the student to identify problems in rectifiers, batteries and equipment grounding.

Objectives Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:
  • Understand the function and parts of the CO power system
  • Identify rectifier and battery problems using a job aid
  • Identify potential rectifier and battery problems
  • Assess battery health using Ohmic testing
  • Identify battery installation problems
  • Understand function and parts of the equipment protection system
  • Use a job aid to identify cabling and connection problems in the equipment protection system
